The U.S. military reported that it thwarted a Houthi antiship missile launch in Yemen aimed at the Red Sea, claiming it posed an imminent threat to both merchant vessels and U.S.

Navy ships in the region. The action followed a Houthi attack on a British oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden. The Marlin Luanda, owned by Trafigura, was damaged, prompting U.S. Navy ship USS Carney to assist. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree took responsibility, vowing further attacks until Israel’s actions in Gaza cease. Houthi attacks have impacted shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, causing disruptions in global maritime trade. The U.S. and UK have responded with air raids targeting Houthi sites in Yemen. The rebels, in turn, have threatened U.S. and UK ships, with recent attacks on U.S.-flagged vessels.
