Soldier martyred after Pakistani peacekeepers ambushed between Sudan, South Sudan.

In the contested region between Sudan and South Sudan, a Pakistani Army soldier has sacrificed his life, and four others engaged in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission sustained injuries during an attack, as reported by the military’s media wing in Rawalpindi. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) conveyed in a statement that a convoy of Pakistani peacekeepers came under ambush in Abyei while escorting two local patients to a hospital.

The Pakistani peacekeepers effectively responded to the attack, compelling the militants to retreat. Unfortunately, in the crossfire, Sepoy Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Badin, embraced martyrdom, while four individuals, including two officers, sustained injuries.

The ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s peacekeeping contingents consistently distinguish themselves through professionalism and unwavering dedication to duty. The statement underscored Pakistan’s enduring commitment to its role as a responsible member of the international community, pledging to continue contributing to global peace and stability under the United Nations’ auspices.

It was noted that, to date, 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives while actively serving the cause of peace across the world.
