Schools are observing a winter break in response to the prevailing cold weather.

Pakistan is currently in the grip of a cold wave, and the city of Karachi, the country’s largest city, is experiencing colder mornings and nights accompanied by chilly winds. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi had its coldest morning of 2024, with the temperature dropping to 14°C in the city.

According to the PMD advisory, there are no chances of showers today. The temperature range for the day is expected to be between 13°C and 26°C, with winds blowing at a speed of 17km/h. The maximum UV Index recorded is 3, which is considered moderate, and the visibility is around 5km.

However, despite the measures taken, the air quality in Karachi has been recorded at over 170, which is categorized as “Very Unhealthy.” Experts suggest that the air pollution has reached a high level and is deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups. If experiencing symptoms such as difficulty breathing or throat irritation, it is recommended to reduce the time spent outside.

In other parts of Pakistan, mainly cold and dry weather is expected, with particularly cold conditions in the northern parts and north Balochistan. Dense fog or smog is likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, while fog or smog is also expected in the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during nighttime hours.
