Is Trump mentally fit? asks Nikki Haley on comparison with Nancy Pelosi.
During one of her election rallies on Saturday, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley raised concerns about former US president Donald Trump’s “mental fitness,” as reported by CNN.
Haley was quoted as saying, “The concern I have is, I’m not saying anything derogatory, but when you’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do it.”
Her remarks followed an incident at a campaign rally where Trump confused her with former White House speaker Nancy Pelosi when discussing the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack. In response, Trump asserted his cognitive ability, stating, “A few months ago I took a cognitive test … and I aced it.”
In an interview with Fox News, Haley emphasized the need for individuals at their peak performance, stating, “We need people at the top of their game. I’m not saying that this is a Joe Biden situation, but I’m saying, are we going to go and have two eighty-year-olds running for president?” She further suggested that candidates above the age of 75 running for the presidency should be required to undergo mental competency tests.
Both Nikki Haley and Donald Trump are vying for the presidency in the 2024 US election as Republican candidates. In the first Republican Election faceoff in Iowa, Trump secured the top position, winning 20 out of 40 seats, followed by Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.
