KARACHI: A corruption case has been filed against SP Sarwar Abro of Sindh Police, alleging his ‘interference’ in the official duties of the Chairman of Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment (E&ACE) and ‘threatening’ him regarding his transfer from Larkana to Karachi.

The reported incident occurred when SP Sarwar Abro, serving as the Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Establishment at Larkana Zone on deputation, was transferred to the Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment’s head office in Karachi on December 5, 2023. According to the FIR lodged by Dileep Kumar, the Personal Staff Officer of Chairman Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment (E&ACE) Syed Zulfiqar Shah, SP Abro allegedly behaved improperly on December 6, 2023. He reportedly threatened the chairman and demanded the withdrawal of his transfer order.

The incident was witnessed by the Special Secretary of E&ACE and other office staff members, as mentioned in the FIR.

In response, the Sindh government promptly suspended SP Sarwar Abro and reassigned him to the Sindh Police. Furthermore, departmental proceedings were initiated against him. Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar directed strict action against SP Abro for the alleged misconduct.

In line with the caretaker Sindh CM’s directives, an inquiry was initiated by the Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment to investigate SP Sarwar Abro for suspected accumulation of assets beyond his known sources of income.

Attempts were made to obtain SP Abro’s version by reaching out to him, but as of the completion of this news story, he had not responded to calls made on his cell number.
