Govt takes action on SC directives on missing persons.

Sources say attorney general of Pakistan has written a letter to defence and interior secretaries instructing them to submit affidavits.

The interim government has initiated the enforcement of directives from the Supreme Court regarding missing persons.

According to sources, the Attorney General of Pakistan has penned a letter to the secretaries of defence and interior, directing them to submit affidavits to the apex court, ensuring a commitment to preventing any future illegal disappearances.

The letter specifically refers to paragraph 11 of the Supreme Court’s orders dated January 3, which explicitly stated a prohibition on illegal disappearances going forward.

In compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives, key officers from the relevant ministries are required to submit affidavits, pledging to prevent illegal disappearances. These directives were issued in response to applications from Amna Masood Janjua and others. The caretaker government has now taken steps to implement the Supreme Court’s instructions, starting with the submission of assurances by the federal secretaries of defence and interior against illegal disappearances.
