KARACHI: Govt reduces Hajj expenses: In a news conference held at Haji Camp Karachi, Caretaker Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Dr. Aneeq Ahmed announced a significant reduction of Rs. 0.1 million in government Hajj expenses, ensuring that the facilities provided to pilgrims remain uncompromised.

A notable provision for the pilgrims is the allocation of a 30kg suitcase for each individual, and female pilgrims will receive scarfs (Abaya) featuring the national flag, which is being offered for the first time.

Dr. Ahmed highlighted the introduction of a mobile application aimed at assisting the pilgrims. This app will provide navigation assistance and enable constant communication between the pilgrims and relevant officials. Initially available in English and Urdu, the app will later include various regional languages.

Dr. Ahmed emphasized the improvements made in the Hajj process and revealed that Islamabad and Karachi have been included in Saudi Arabia’s Road to Makkah project. This inclusion allows for the completion of the immigration process for Hujjaj at Karachi airport, streamlining their journey.

Furthermore, the government has introduced a 20-day short Hajj package, aiming to make Hajj more financially accessible to citizens. Efforts are underway to ensure that Pakistani Hujjaj are accommodated in tents at Old Mina, as the distance to New Mina poses challenges for pilgrims.

Regarding the allocation of Hajj seats, Dr. Ahmed mentioned that Pakistan has secured 179,000 seats, with half of them reserved for private Hajj operators. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will oversee these operators to ensure the well-being of pilgrims, holding the ministry responsible for any issues faced by those performing Hajj through private operators.

Dr. Ahmed also highlighted the ongoing renovation work at the Haji Camp Karachi building, further emphasizing the commitment to enhancing pilgrimage facilities.

In terms of expenses, Dr. Aneeq clarified that the announced package does not include Qurbani (sacrifice) expenses during Hajj.

Additionally, intending pilgrims who choose a shorter stay in Medina will receive an additional reduction of Rs. 35,000 in Hajj expenses.
