WANA: Unidentified assailants carried out an armed attack in Wana, the capital of South Waziristan, on Friday, resulting in the death of five laborers and the injury of one, according to officials.

“The incident occurred approximately 10 kilometers west of the district headquarters in the Azam Warsak area of Birmal tehsil,” stated Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan to Dawn. He mentioned that the laborers met their unfortunate fate while asleep inside a tent near a police station under construction.

Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan further added that although the area was known to have the presence of banned TTP affiliates, even the local police were unaware that the building was intended for a police station.

DPO Farmanullah informed Dawn that a case has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is conducting an investigation into the incident.

“It is too early to determine the nature of the attack as no militant organization has claimed responsibility so far. However, we have filed a case under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997,” stated Miss Marvi to Daily Benazir Newspaper.
