Campaign to enrol out of school children to start on International Day of Education.

In anticipation of the International Day of Education, the business community based in Lahore is set to convene at an event to show support for the commendable initiative of enrolling out-of-school children in Sindh.

The non-profit organization Green Crescent Trust (GCT) is organizing this event at a hotel in Lahore to commemorate the International Day of Education, celebrated annually on January 24 in accordance with the UN’s declaration. During this event, notable figures from Lahore’s business community will throw their support behind GCT’s charitable campaign, aiming to enroll a total of 100,000 out-of-school children in Sindh by establishing a network of 250 schools by the end of 2025. Over the past 29 years, GCT has made significant strides in combating illiteracy in Sindh, having built 166 charitable schools in remote and rural areas, with an enrollment of over 31,799 children from deprived families.

Zahid Saeed, the CEO of GCT, expressed optimism about the upcoming fundraiser, stating, “This is the fifth fundraiser we are going to organize, and like our past events, we are hopeful that the business community of Punjab’s capital, in pursuit of their philanthropic obligations, will once again overwhelmingly support our drive to end illiteracy for the advancement of less-privileged parts of the country.”

He emphasized that the event would be a unique opportunity to come together for the education of children from deprived families in the neighboring province. Chief guests at the occasion will include Punjab Energy, Industries, and Commerce Minister S. M. Tanveer, as well as Punjab Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram. Additionally, Federal IT and Telecommunications Minister Dr Umar Saif and Punjab Minister of Mines, Minerals & Transport Ibrahim Hasan Murad are expected to attend the event.
