The Supreme Court has deferred its decision on the petition filed by former Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui challenging his dismissal.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan reserved its judgment on the petition filed by former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui contesting his removal. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led the bench overseeing the petition, with members including Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Irfan Saadat.

The proceedings of the apex court were broadcast live on the Supreme Court’s website and various channels. Chief Justice Isa remarked during the hearing that the Supreme Judicial Council did not meet the legal requirements in the removal of the former judge.

On the preceding day, Pakistan’s former spy chief, Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, submitted his response to the petition. In his reply, the former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) dismissed the allegations of his involvement in the formation of Islamabad High Court benches to prolong the detention of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. Faiz Hameed stated that the former jurist unjustifiably involved him in the case.

Previously, notices had been issued to Faiz Hameed, Brigadier (retired) Irfan Ramay, former IHC Chief Justice Anwar Khan Kasi, and former Supreme Court Registrar Arbab Muhammad Arif.
