Punjab Chief Minister Naqvi suggests the possibility of prolonging the winter break for schools due to the ongoing cold wave.

A severe cold wave has tightened its hold on Lahore and parts of Punjab, enveloping the region in dense fog and prompting the government to consider measures to protect school students from the extreme weather conditions. The frigid temperatures and thick fog have significantly reduced visibility, causing disruptions in daily life and potentially affecting transportation and other services.

Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has discussed the possibility of extending the winter vacation for schools beyond January 9. However, he clarified that no decision has been made yet. During a recent media interaction, CM Naqvi stated that the extension of the winter break would depend on the recommendation of the education department.

Previously, the Punjab government had already announced additional holidays until January 9. Initially, the vacations were scheduled to end on December 31 but were extended further.

Furthermore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also announced an extension of the winter vacations. The provincial administration has declared a winter break until January 7, 2024, due to a teacher training program for elections and the harsh cold weather prevalent in the region.
