The inauguration of flights at the New Gwadar Airport is scheduled for August, according to a spokesperson.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson has announced that the new Gwadar International Airport, with a total cost of Rs51 billion, is set to commence flight operations in August. This includes a Chinese grant of Rs34 billion. In 2023, the main runway of Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport underwent reconstruction and upgrade, accommodating Category F aircraft at an expenditure of Rs18.5 billion.

Looking ahead to the new year, several aviation projects are on the horizon. The Muridke Aerodrome project will be constructed, and upon its completion in March 2024, the existing Walton Aerodrome will be relocated there. Additionally, seven CAA projects are slated to begin in 2024, encompassing initiatives such as a multi-storeyed car parking facility for Bacha Khan International Airport, the upgrade of Charlie and Alpha taxiways at Multan Airport, and the construction of Apron H lights and Apron floodlights tower. In Karachi, both the outer and inner roads of Jinnah International Airport will be enhanced to alleviate congestion and streamline passenger movement. Furthermore, a new air traffic control tower and fire station will be erected at the Karachi Airport, and the construction of a new-grade fleet airport will commence at a fresh location in Dera Ismail Khan.

The Sukkur airport is scheduled for extension and upgrade, supporting the main runway of Karachi’s Jinnah Airport and facilitating F category aircraft. Lastly, the Allama Iqbal Airport terminal building and expansion project is set to be completed within two and a half years
