Is the Punjab government prolonging winter breaks for schools due to smog and a cold wave.

Lahore – The interim government of Punjab has announced the extension of winter vacations in schools due to the prevailing smog issue. However, the situation remains concerning as the provincial capital Lahore and several other cities continue to grapple with alarming levels of air pollution.

With winter holidays set to conclude in five days, unverified reports circulating on social media suggest a potential delay in the resumption of schools’ winter vacations due to the cold weather and air pollution.

Despite rumors circulating about the possible extension of holidays, the government has not issued any official notification confirming the extension of the winter break. Parents are advised to rely on information provided by the School Education Department, and based on current information, schools are scheduled to reopen at the beginning of January 2024.

While the government is implementing measures to combat smog, including the unprecedented experiment of artificial rain, Lahore continues to be identified as one of the most polluted cities globally.
