LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat after he was detained under 3MPO. Marwat was arrested by police outside the LHC on December 14 as he was leaving the court premises after attending a lawyers’ convention.

The petition seeking the release of Marwat was heard by Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry, who presided over the proceedings. In the verdict, the court ordered the PTI leader to submit a surety bond in order to secure his release.

On December 14, the former ruling party shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing Marwat’s arrest. The footage depicted police officials dragging Marwat by the collar while several lawyers attempted to intervene.

In response to the incident, the PTI expressed its dismay, describing the abduction of lawyers from the premises of LHC as shameful and indicating a lack of respect for the courts by those in power. The PTI condemned these actions, referring to the caretaker government’s crossing of boundaries into fascism. The party also called upon the judges of the LHC to ensure Marwat’s safe return.

The PTI further asserted that these unconstitutional and illegal tactics were aimed at evading elections and imposing individuals on the public who were part of the “London plan.” The party criticized the judiciary for its perceived silence, stating that it was contributing to the encouragement of such unlawful actions.
