2024 Elections: Nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif accepted for NA-130 Lahore.
Lahore – The nomination papers of former Prime Minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif have been approved for the National Assembly constituency NA-130 in Lahore.
Bilal Yasin, a PML-N representative, informed the media that he appeared before the returning officer (RO) on behalf of the former premier during the scrutiny process. He confirmed that Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers have been accepted for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8 next year.
Nawaz Sharif is set to contest the elections from NA-130, covering areas such as Gawalmandi and Anarkali. Reports indicate that the PML-N leader, whose conviction in Al-Azizia and other cases was suspended earlier in the year, is now eligible to participate in the elections following the approval of his documents.
With the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), political activities have gained momentum. The scrutiny of nomination papers filed by candidates is currently underway and will continue until Saturday.
As per the Election Commission, a total of 28,026 candidates have submitted nomination papers for contests in national and four provincial assemblies’ constituencies. Among them, 13,823 candidates filed nominations from Punjab, 6,498 from Sindh, 5,278 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,669 from Balochistan, and 358 from the federal capital, Islamabad.
Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3, with decisions on these appeals expected by January 10. The list of candidates will be displayed on January 11, and candidates will have the option to withdraw by January 12. Electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13, and the general elections will take place on February 8.
