2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Maiden title for Spain.

Before a crowd of 75,784 spectators at Stadium Australia in Sydney, Spain secured their maiden Women’s World Cup title by defeating the formidable England, thanks to Olga Carmona’s decisive 29th-minute goal.

Both teams were making their debut in a Women’s World Cup final. Despite Spain having participated in two previous mega events, only reaching the round of 16, and England having claimed a third-place finish in 2015, the Lionesses couldn’t capitalize on their experience. Jorge Vilda’s Spanish side emerged victorious after a commanding performance, marking a historic achievement for Spain.

However, the significance of Spain’s triumph was overshadowed by controversy involving former RFEF president Luis Rubiales. He generated substantial backlash after kissing Spain’s Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during the final.
